Capture: Domestic Lost/Found Stray Dogs
Robert W. Melby, Jr., of Clawz and Pawz, a family owned and operated business since 2001, has contracted with Somers for animal control services. Residents may contact Clawz and Pawz 24 hours a day/7 days a week to capture a lost/found stray domestic dog, including those who are injured or dangerous. Upon capture, the dog will be transported to Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha.

Clawz and Pawz provides services for private pay such as pet care, hobby farm care, transportation to the vet, grooming, or kennel, wildlife eviction, exotic animal control, training, and more. Impoundment and Care: Dogs
Somers has contracted with Kenosha County Humane Society d/b/a Safe Harbor Humane Society to temporarily house, feed, water, and care for dogs brought in by Clawz and Pawz. Safe Harbor shall promptly attempt to notify the owners. WE ENCOURAGE ALL OWNERS TO PROVIDE A CURRENT IDENTIFICATION TAG AND/OR EAR CHIP SO EVERY EFFORT CAN BE MADE TO RETURN YOUR PET.
Abuse and Neglect Complaints
Don't be silent. If you see abuse and neglect, we rely on you to step forward and report these crimes. Abuse may be related to shelter, food, water, disease, illness, injury, space, sanitation, air and light, confinement, collars, and grooming.
What do you do if you suspect?
- Contact the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department (yes, you can remain anonymous) at (262)605-5100. Provide the address where the animal is kept and a description of your concerns/condition of the animal. The Sheriff's Department takes abuse/neglect calls seriously and will dispatch an officer to investigate.
- Or, contact the Village/Town of Somers at 262-859-2822 and ask to speak to Bill Morris (Administrator) or Tim Kitzman (Clerk/Treasurer) to report your concerns. Yes, you can remain anonymous. Action will be taken.
Cost of Stray Animals to the Taxpayer
The Village/Town of Somers is dedicated to safe dog ownership for residents as well as their pet. When a call is received about a stray dog in Somers, the Wisconsin Statutes require a certified humane officer pick up the animal who will then transport the animal to receive shelter and care. The cost related to this activity is reflected below and is included in the Village/Town of Somers annual budget.
