About

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a four-year public university that is part of the University of Wisconsin System.  It was created by an act of the Wisconsin legislature in 1965 combining two-year UW centers in Kenosha and Racine.  Parkside was created in July 1968 when the University of Wisconsin combined two-year UW centers in Kenosha and Racine.  Ground broke for the new campus in the Village of Somers, Kenosha County, in November 1967 and Parkside accepted its first on-site students in the fall of 1969.  The first students graduated from Parkside in June, 1970.  Since then, more than 21,000 students have earned degrees.

Campus

The campus consists of 700 acres, is located in the Village of Somers, and has hundreds of acres of restored prairies, mature oak and maple forests and nature trails located on Pike Creek.  It is a complex of modern buildings, the originals constructed between 1967 and 1976.  The low profile design helps the campus complex blend in with it natural surroundings.
