The Village Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a new ambulance at the board meeting held April 26, 2016. The current ambulance, a 2000 Med-Tec, is nearing its life expectancy and it is beginning to incur significant repair costs. Also taken into consideration is the increase in ambulance usage as a result of increased call volumes.
Replacing the 2000 Med-Tec is a new 2017 Life-Line 171” Super Liner Type I, which features a Ford E450 chassis. Life-Life vehicles are proudly manufactured in Sumner, Iowa. The new 2017 ambulance will be the first 4-wheel drive ambulance for the Village. It will be customized to meet our needs and is equipped with a new stretcher that replaces one that is 20 years old. The cost is approximately $205,000.00. The purchase does not require any down payment during the 2016 Somers budget cycle; however, full payment is due upon delivery which is expected in January, 2017.
