The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting to discuss proposed improvements along Sheridan Road from Alford Park Drive in Kenosha to 21st Street in Racine. The meeting is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Carthage College Campbell Student Union Auditorium, 2001 Alford Park Drive. Please note that masks are required to be worn inside all campus buildings, regardless of vaccination status.
WisDOT staff will be available to discuss the project. For those unable to attend in person, the meeting materials and exhibits will be shared on the WisDOT website for the public to provide input. Representatives from WisDOT were at the Village/Town Hall to present the project on the Sept. 9, 2021 work session. There presentation is available here. The packet from that meeting is online here.
Anyone interested in the project is encouraged to review project details, ask questions, and provide comments that will assist WisDOT during the project’s design and construction.
The purpose of the project is to address the deteriorating pavement condition, decreased ride quality, and to improve safety for bicycles and pedestrians along this segment of Sheridan Road. The improvements include:
- Resurface Sheridan Road
- Update signals at signalized intersections
- Potential lane-reductions with a two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL) in the center.
- Examining possible sidewalks between Alford Park Drive and Highway A (Seventh Street)
- On-road bike accommodations
Another public meeting will be held next year. Construction is scheduled to take place in 2025.
