The Somers Public Works staff has started installing new meter reading technology for water utility customers. They started with commercial customers. Residential customer installation will start mid-April.

The update for residents consists in the addition of a radio transmitter to the touchpad already located outside. It is the device (show at right) that Somers employees walk to quarterly to read the water meter. Once installed, the new radio transmitters will be readable from the road, significantly improving efficiency.

Once the installation is complete, you will notice a gray box being installed onto the existing black touchpad on your property (see photo at right). In most cases, our staff will not need to enter your home or business. However, if the radio transmitter is unable to communicate with your existing meter, we will need access to complete the installation. You will be contacted for an appointment if that is the case.

Thank you for your cooperation as we enhance our water meter reading system.
