On July 11, 2016, the Somers Plan Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit for a new convenience/service station in the B-4 Planned Business District for Kwik Trip, Inc. The new Kwik Trip business will be located east of the new Festival Foods store on the corner of Highway 31 (Green Bay Road) and 31st Street. Chifest Properties Somers, LLC of Onalaska, Wisconsin is the developer of the project.
The single story structure will include 7,123 square feet of store area and 2,963 square feet of car wash area. The proposed site includes 39,680 square feet (39.5%) of green space in addition to 50,597 square feet (50.4%) of pavement and sidewalk area. The proposed site includes 36 parking stalls, 2 accessible stalls, and 20 pump stalls.
The convenience store will provide everyday grocery needs. Items to be sold include fresh meat, fruit, potatoes, onion, milk, eggs, butter, bananas and ice cream. A selection of hot and cold beverages will also be available along with hot prepared foods such as pizza, soup, and cheeseburgers. Cold food selections include salads and sandwiches. A large bakery selection will be included.
Softener salt and propane tanks will also be available. The car wash is an unattended automatic self-serve wash, offering multiple wash options and levels.
The Kwik-Trip facility will be open 24/7 and estimates to employ 25-30 employees. Grand opening is expected in 2017.
