A generous anonymous donation was recently made to the Somers Fire & Rescue Association by a resident of Somers.  The Somers Fire & Rescue Department used the funds to purchase an MSA Evolution 5600 thermal imaging camera that has a market price of approximately $10,000.  The unit displays a digital temperature measurement along with a temperature scale measure to determine advancing heat.  This camera will assist our firefighters to easily locate hot spots and the seat of fires.

Lt. Ryan Nelson of the Somers Fire & Rescue Department demonstrated the unit, showing how this equipment assists in locating people and pets quickly when you cannot see through the smoke.  Nelson said, “this new camera is light weight, easy to use, has longer lasting batteries, and offers the latest technology.  On behalf of all the Somers firefighters, we are very excited to receive this new imaging camera.  We now have two cameras which means we are able to double our investigation efforts.  Anytime we can find a way to act faster in a fire situation, the Somers residents will benefit.”
