The Village and Town of Somers extend their sympathy to Ron Birchell and his family on the death of Marlene Birchell.

The Birchell family has been active in the Somers community since the mid-1800’s. The historic Burr Oak School of Somers Township, formerly located on the northwest corner of Highways E and H, was organized in 1845 and erected in a grove of oak trees on what was known as the Thomas Birchell farm. Near this location, the Birchell family operates Burr Oak Greenhouse, a favorite stop for many to purchase their spring flowers and vegetables.

In honor of their community involvement, Ron and Marlene were named 2013 Somers Parade Marshalls.
