Thomas J. Smith, Town of Somers Fire Chief

The Board of Supervisors of the Town of Somers is pleased to announce that Thomas J. Smith has been named Fire Chief. He will oversee a combination staff of both paid and volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The Fire Commissioner recommended the hiring of Mr. Smith to replace John Sorensen who served nine months as Interim Fire Chief after the retirement of Chief Steven Krause.
Chief Smith’s career spans over 19 years of fire and EMT service. His volunteer experience began in Kenosha County at the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Later he joined several other fire departments in Kenosha County gaining valuable experience in public safety. He has also held the position of EMS Supervisor for Aurora Healthcare and EMS Coordinator for Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha.
“I am honored to take over the role of Fire Chief of the Town of Somers and am looking forward to moving to the community which will provide me immediate access to meeting the needs of the community ,” Smith quoted. “Somers has a progressive department and everything is top notch with respect to training, education, and technology. I am committed to continue the excellent work that is the hallmark of the Department and will continue to provide the citizens of Somers with exceptional service.”
Tom was born and raised in the Silver Lake area of Kenosha County and is currently living in Twin Lakes with his wife and two children.
